ECR Retail Systems (ECR), the leading UK-based MPoS specialist, has developed and launched the GoFree, the first compact handheld terminal of its kind, designed specifically for the airline sector and with inbuilt Miura PED.  Incorporating the latest ECR AirPoS technology, the GoFree uses customer data to enhance the passenger and airline crew experience, and is designed to work as part of a full end-to-end airline system.

ECR Retail Systems Launches the GoFree

Combines small, standalone receipt printer to fully support e-receipts

London, UK – 16th October 2018 – ECR Retail Systems (ECR), the leading UK-based MPoS specialist, has developed and launched the GoFree, the first compact handheld terminal of its kind, designed specifically for the airline sector and with inbuilt Miura PED.  Incorporating the latest ECR AirPoS technology, the GoFree uses customer data to enhance the passenger and airline crew experience, and is designed to work as part of a full end-to-end airline system.

The GoFree is the most compact device that ECR provides, with the same full Windows 10 capability of the successful ECRGo2, launched last year, which was the industry’s first fully-certified, all-in-one contactless, handheld mobile point of sale (MPoS) device exclusively for the airline industry.  The new GoFree devices can communicate seamlessly with the Go2’s inbuilt printer, or with a small, standalone receipt printer for any operations that require it and fully support e-receipts.

With ECR’s GoFree device, using its AirPoS software, airline crew are now able to take contactless payments anywhere in the world, even in an offline environment, whereas competitive systems are only able to satisfy contactless passenger demands when online.  All ECR transactions are settled in the local client’s currency, and clients are protected against chargebacks.

Designed to help airlines maximise ancillary revenue, the technology offers fast and easy seat upgrades, enabling crew and passengers the ability to view and manage availability, as well as make payments at the touch of a button.  AirPoS also integrates with inflight entertainment systems to take payments for at-seat services, such as a movie or magazine downloads and at-seat ordering.

Simon Pont, CEO, ECR Retail Systems, said, “With this new payment device, the GoFree, airline passengers feel valued and recognized for their loyalty.  Airlines can now offer the most up-to-date technology and provide crews with a small and discreet yet purpose-designed device with a clear display, incorporating ECR’s intuitive AirPoS software.  We are confident that this new lightweight device, especially with the new seat-upgrade functionality, e-receipt option, and the ability to take contactless payments offline, will add immense value to the passenger and crew experience, and help further improve airline revenue streams.”

Beyond the offline contactless capability, the main advantage of the GoFree is its size, having been designed around the convenience of e-receipts, lighter weight and a slimline shell.  The devices are small enough to be comfortably held by crew and weigh considerably less than typical EPOS terminals.

The new terminals will enable airlines to give passengers the best travel experience, adding value to the airline offer at all touchpoints throughout their journey.  From booking through to boarding, passengers share details with the airline, which can store personal preferences.  This allows airlines to deliver tailored offers for each passenger according to these preferences, including discounts, new product alerts and pre-booked goods, food and beverage orders. Passengers can then decide whether to accept these offers, including loyalty schemes. They can also store payment cards and receive e-receipts on landing.   Airline Crews can greet passengers by name and upsell goods according to the information that passengers have shared.

The GoFree device has excellent battery life and is simple to charge with a small charger cable. It carries all PCI and EMV certification and is ready-to-deploy.  The large touchscreen and Windows 10 technology ensures long-term support and lifespan.

The GoFree device is designed and manufactured by ECR Retail Systems.  It features an inbuilt scanner, Miura PED and has all the robustness and functionality of the ECRGo2, which has received extremely positive feedback and performed well since its launch in 2017.
